Thesis targeted for pree-service students of design and technology teacher Education programme at the Faculty of Education. Our aim is to offer students the ideal profile and required competencies for the design and techology teacher profile. We aim at those future students that are interested in the professiona fiel for a longer period and who are either technologically gifted, talented or highly motivated in technology. A measuring instrument for determination of the level of adequacy of the future students of design and technology education programme doesn’t exist yet in Slovenia, and though there are grade scales for identifying talented students, they are incomplete. We define the acquired and preferred teacher competencies for the future students, and propose a measuring instrument examining the level of adequacy for design and technology students that can be used at the faculty or for the general use. Its content is explained and justified by an testing example.
