The thesis entitled Promoting Independence in Children in the First Age Group consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, the concept of independence and the developmental domains of child development are defined based on professional literature. The challenges faced by professionals in promoting independence, as well as the factors influencing its development, are also presented.
The empirical part of the thesis presents the data collected through a questionnaire distributed to professional staff in kindergartens. The analysis of the responses showed that professionals use a variety of approaches to promote independence. All developmental domains are considered important; however, greater emphasis is placed on those directly related to everyday activities. The results also indicate that professionals devote a significant amount of time to fostering independence, with children’s emotional responses representing the greatest challenge.
