Sexuality education is an important yet sensitive area of educational work, as it is closely connected to children’s rights, physical and mental health, well-being, and respectful interpersonal relationships. In Slovenia, this field is not systematically and comprehensively integrated into the school context and often depends on individual schools or staff members recognizing its importance. This responsibility frequently falls to the school's counselling service, as sexuality education appears as a cross-cutting component of counselling work. The theoretical part presents key international guidelines on comprehensive sexuality education, as well as the ethical, sociological, and developmental foundations that establish the legitimacy of comprehensive sexuality education in schools. It also presents the importance of the professional role and competence of school counselling professionals. For this reason, it is important to evaluate how this content is integrated into curricula from study programs that educate future school counselling staff. The empirical part presents an analysis of curricula of study programs, as well as an analysis of focus groups with course instructors in whose courses specific content related to this field was identified. The findings show that some relevant content is present, but mostly indirectly, in a fragmented and unsystematic manner. The thesis therefore emphasizes the need to recognize the importance of this field and to include the necessary content in study programs in a more structured way.
