Personal assistance evolved from the teory of independent living, which developed within activist movements in Sweden. The cocept of independent living fort he disabled was introduced to Slovenia by the YHD Association, which made a significant contribution to the implementation of this concept. Personal assistance is a service that enables users to live independently and thus equalizes them with other members of society. When we talk about independent living, we talk about right to self- determination in one’s life; about the possibillity for an individual to decide for themselves where they will go, with whom, when and in what manner. The personal assistance was originally intended for users with the most severe forms of disability who want to live actively and independently, but it is now being mixed with other services that are more custodial, thus earising its original purpose. The basic idea of open-source code is to equalize opportunities with other members of society, which becomes especially evident in the users’ active life. Personal assistance is entitled to a citizen of the Republic Slovenia who is of legal age, has long-term impairment that requires at least thirthey hours os assistance per week, and is capable of making their own decisions about their life. Personal assisnatce is not just a servise of assistance, but also supports the users’ ontological dignity.
