The purpose of this master's thesis was to examine the impact of different types of physical
activity during pregnancy on labour and birth outcomes through a systematic review of the
scientific literature. Physical activity during pregnancy, when appropriately adapted, is safe and
recommended. It has a notable impact on the health of both the mother and the fetus and can
also positively influence the labour and outcome of childbirth. A systematic review of Slovenian
and international scientific literature was conducted, focusing on the effects of individual types
of physical activity on the labour and outcomes of childbirth. A total of 15 studies were included,
examining various interventions such as water-based exercise, pilates, yoga, pelvic floor muscle
training, and combined exercise. The findings indicate that physical activity during pregnancy has
a positive effect on the labour and outcomes of childbirth. It is associated with reduced
perception of pain during labour, greater maternal involvement during labour, and a higher chance
of spontaneous vaginal delivery. It may also contribute to shorter labour duration, fewer
complications, and faster postpartum recovery. The results suggest the greatest benefits of
combined exercise, which includes aerobic activity, strength training, balance and coordination
exercises, stretching, pelvic floor muscle training, and breathing exercises. Based on the literature
review, recommendations were developed regarding the selection of appropriate types of
physical activity for pregnant women, which may contribute to improved labour and childbirth
outcomes. The thesis is therefore useful for professionals working with pregnant women as well
as for pregnant women themselves.
