In the theoretical introduction, I first defined the concepts of motherhood, partnership, and student parents. I then explored the reconciliation of partnership, family life, and academic responsibilities. The discussion also included the development of partnership dynamics, the division of roles between partners, communication, sexuality, and emotional intimacy. Additionally, the theoretical section addressed the legal support available to student parents in Slovenia and the role of social work in supporting these individuals.
In the methodological section, I outlined my qualitative research, which involved conducting ten interviews to investigate the experiences of women balancing the roles of mother, student, and partner. The research focused on the challenges these women face in managing their roles and the impact on their relationships. I posed research questions about the changes student mothers observed in their partnerships due to the interplay of these roles, the support they currently receive, and the additional support they might require.
The findings revealed that, despite significant challenges and shifts in their relationships, student mothers, who participated in the study, demonstrate remarkable resilience and adaptability. Support from partners and extended family plays a significant role in contributing to their positive experiences. Despite various obstacles, many successfully continue their education while maintaining fulfilling relationships with their partners.
