In this thesis, we define a conservation-restoration plan for the painting of St. Lucy from the left side altar of the Church of St. Margaret in Koče. The painting exhibits various types of damage, primarily caused by the effects of moisture as are: cupping, chalking of the colour surface and flaking of the paint layer. We attempted to describe the impact on specific layers and the materials used in the painting as best as possible. We performed scientific analyses and investigations on the painting, which revealed its structure and the materials used.
With the aid of scientific analysis and testing, we were able to determine the structure of the painting and identify the materials used. The sequence of procedures proposed in the conservation-restoration plan was based on the condition of the artwork, scientific analyses and testing of appropriate consolidants and methods for removing impurities from the front and back of the painting. In the proposed conservation-restoration plan, we defined the appropriate procedures necessary to return the painting to its original environment, taking into account the principles of material reversibility and compatibility.
