In my thesis, I conducted measurements of noise exposure at one of the primary schools
in Ljubljana. The aim of the research was to determine the noise levels present in shared
school areas4such as hallways, the gym, and the cafeteria4through measurements, and
to assess whether these levels are potentially harmful to the health and well-being of
children and staff.
In the analysis, I focused on the possible long-term effects of noise on students’ nervous
systems, their ability to concentrate, and the psychological and physiological
consequences of prolonged exposure to elevated noise levels. Based on the measured
values, I compared the results with the legally defined limits set by regulations on the
protection of workers from risks related to noise exposure at work. The purpose of this
comparison was to determine whether the noise levels in school environments exceed the
recommended values and whether they may pose a risk to students and staff.
In addition to analyzing the measured data, the thesis also addresses the negative effects
of noise, such as stress, reduced learning efficiency, irritability, and hearing problems. I
also presented possible noise reduction measures, including architectural solutions,
technical improvements, workplace adaptations, and natural methods that can contribute
to better acoustic conditions in the school environment.
The content of this thesis may contribute to the implementation of preventive measures
to reduce noise exposure in primary schools and improve the learning and working
environment for all participants in the educational process.
