Constructed wetlands (CWs) have become an increasingly prevalent technology for wastewater treatment, both globally and in Slovenia. They are particularly suitable for individual buildings, hamlets, and small settlements. Slovenian municipalities are required by law to organize municipal wastewater collection and treatment within specified deadlines. In this master's thesis, we identified the most suitable locations for the placement of CWs within the Municipality of Novo mesto (MONM) using spatial decision support and GIS with multi-criteria evaluation. The evaluation was conducted in two steps. First, we performed a multi-criteria evaluation using the weighted overlay combination method (WLC) across the entire municipality based on 19 selected criteria. Since most agglomerations in the municipality already have adequate wastewater collection and treatment systems, we then identified settlements containing agglomerations that still lack proper wastewater collection and treatment. We found 16 such agglomerations in 15 settlements. In the second step of evaluation, we identified one or two of the most suitable locations for CW placement for each of the 16 agglomerations, based on 2 additional criteria. We then verified the results through fieldwork. We concluded that all the suggested locations are adequate, except for one where another infrastructure has already been built.
