The thesis deals with the role of the Association of Friends of Youth in the forging and retention of the character of Father Frost in Slovenia. Father Frost came to Slovenia as a gift-bearer in 1948, by example of the Soviet Union. It is an artificially introduced celebration, so the author first depicts the political and historical background of the character and then focuses on the SAFY, which became the main organiser of Grandather Frost events soon after his introduction. The SAFY is a non-government organization, that has for the past 60 years worked in the field of social care, upbringing, education and counselling for children, adolescents and families. With its directions and activities, it affected the content of the programme and gifts, contributed to the character traits, and with appeals for maintaining his appearance after the portrayal of Maksim Gaspari, contributed to the preservation of his 'original' appearance to this day. The author is thus interested in these directions and activities, and the thoughts of the SAFY regarding the values they could transfer to the children through the character. The author wants to gather the answers by breaking down the topic into the fields of the character’s outer look, the gifts and gift bearing, the cultural programme and the moral values of Grandfather Frost.
