The goal of this diploma thesis was to create a 3D model of the Ljubljana dragon for inclusion in augmented or mixed reality applications, with the intention of making sightseeing different and more interesting. Overview of augmented reality and mixed reality with emphasis on mobile applications is followed by specifics of models and theoretical approach of modelling and animation. Since Blender was used for modelling and animation, it’s tools, functionalities and basic approach are also described.
As the model is intended for inclusion in Unity applications, the options for importing models to Unity are presented as well, including the basics of animation guidelines. Different types of model creation are reviewed from handmade modelling to photometry approach and since the thesis model was created with photometry approach, some adaptations were necessary as well as its animation. Finally, the results of practical work are presented with basic explanation and findings, which lead to conclusions and options for future work.
