The thesis presents an analysis of the motive of family in the Slovenian prose, published by female authors between 2002 and 2012. In the theoretical part of the thesis, characteristics of feminine writing and historical development of the family are presented, paying particular attention to understanding a patriarchal Slovenian family in the 19th century, since in the form of stereotypes even today it sometimes affects a position and role of family members. Also contemporary concepts of families, which have become more inclusive, are described. The theoretical part summarizes the findings by researchers, who have written about the motive of family in contemporary Slovenian literature, and features a modern short story. In the second part of the thesis eleven collections of short prose, published between 2002 and 2012, are analysed. The selected works were nominated or awarded with one of the literary awards or received major critical responses. The opus of female writers and their work, included in the analysis, are described. There are followed by an analysis of the types of families that appear in the stories, and relationships in them. In the most of the stories there appears a motif of biological nuclear family, the next category being a single parent family, then extended and reorganized family, where a family type is no longer a guarantee of fulfilling and healthy relationships among family members. The thesis is especially focused on a phenomenon of mothers and fathers in the contemporary Slovenian feminine prose. The mothers are mostly no longer stereotypical self-sacrificing, mild housewives; whereas on the contrary fathers in the prose under consideration are not subject to a "new fatherhood". There are featured relations between siblings in this prose, which are generally good but never unambiguous, and alcoholism in families, which is often the source of violence against children. Some attention is also paid to the motif of losing a child in the stories.
