The thesis entitled Eschatological Dimension in Selected Slovene Folk Songs focuses on the presentation of eschatology as a theological science and the search and presentation of eschatological dimensions in selected folk songs. This work primarily aims to answer the question of how people portrayed and interpreted posthumous life when the Slovene folk tradition was in the making, still alive, and was spread »from mouth to mouth«. We attempt to find the answer to that question based on the lyrics of the selected songs. We first consider the basic theoretical starting points and explain the key concepts in the field of eschatology. This is followed by the presentation of folk songs in general and the emergence and implementation of Slovene folk songs. Then we present how the folk singing and Christian beliefs were reflected in the everyday life of the Slovene nation and how these two concepts intertwine. Then comes the essential part of the task, which presents eschatological topics in the lyrics of selected folk songs. Songs are addressed by major eschatological topics: last judgment, purgatory, hell and heaven. Comments are given on each song's lyrics separately, so that we have a clear overview of the topic discussed. At the end of each major topic, a general, common comment is given. Through the explanation in the thesis, we find that belief of the Slovenian nation on the eschatological dimensions is quite simple, but in accordance with the doctrine of the Catholic Church, the only departure is the occasional dualistic conception of the soul and the body. However, this is not surprising, since for centuries, teachings of the Catholic Church on Resurrection were problematic for understanding and interpretation.
