Abstract
V drugem delu članka poskušamo rezultate interpretirati in jih umestiti v okvir širšega vprašanja kulturne in družbene vloge univerzitetnega izobraževanja. Poleg tega nas zanima, v koliko razredni habitus in kulturni kapital strukturirata pričakovanja študentov.

Abstract:
The paper considers studentsʼ expectations with regard to undergraduate studies in the field of media and communication in Slovenia from a critical perspective. In the first part, the paper outlines the origins of the field and the current divisions within it, while focusing particularly on the history of the institutionalisation of communication studies in Slovenia. In this context and drawing on survey data from the Curriculum Development in Communication Sciences project, students' perceptions of the importance and achieved level of five sets of competencies are explored. The paper also addresses the trend towards the increased vocationalisation of media and communication education and argues for the revival of the critical perspective and, from this starting point, critically takes up the issue of communication studentsʼ expectations in Slovenia. Lastly, it attempts to place the findings within a broader context of cultural and social factors, questioning whether class habitus and cultural capital structure students' expectations.
