The thesis shows which EU directives a heat pump must be in accordance with so that it can be sold on the European market. First the reader gets acquainted with the heat pump and its operation. The following is an explanation as to why a heat pump falls under a certain directive. The thesis describes modules for verifying compliance with directives, especially module A, as heat pumps are verified with it. There is a detailed description of the low-voltage directive with the standards EN 60335-1, EN 60335-2-21 and EN 60335-2-40, which are described in detail. There is also a description of measurements and testings which need to be performed in order to meet this standard. The risk assessment for the heat pump has been done. Electromagnetic compatibility is described. There are detailed descriptions of tests which have been done in the accredited laboratory. The final part of the thesis comprises summaries of the Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment, the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive and the Energy-related Products Directive.
