One of Hidria AET products are grid heaters, which are a part of the systems for cold start for diesel engines. They are produced on the production line, treated in this thesis. The line does not operate as it should, because only 550 to 600 parts are produced in one shift instead theoretically possible 840.
That is why we decided to perform overall effectiveness of the production equipment on the line. The analysis is meant to be performed on automatic production lines, but we were able to use it also on production line, where a part of operations is done by a worker by adjusting the production time. We calculated the factors of availability, performance and quality. The performance factor was especially bad, so we made further analysis.
To make the analysis, a data of products transition times is needed. So we designed and produced a device, which enables us to do this. It consists of a sensor for product transition, a circuit for USB communication, a personal computer and software. At product transition the software writes system clock in new line of chosen file.
While working, we found up that the production line already contains product transition time measurement. Since these data do not have double record issues, we have used it in the analysis.
We had two sets of products transition times data available. By comparing the data, we noticed that the device for measuring product transition times was still detecting parts while the measurement in the production line did not. This is only possible if an employee works for some time only on a part of production line, while the rest of the line is at stall. It turned out that this is the main cause for lower number of parts per shift.
