Proteus is an cave amphibian and endemic to Dinara, since it can only be found in Dinaric karst. Pupils who took part in our survey were included in curriculum, valid until 2011. Our survey covered a sample of 130 pupils from 8th and 9th grade throughout Slovenia. We gathered data of pupils performances on the morfology of Proteus by analysing pupils' drawings morfology of Proteus, before visiting the Postojna cave. Our goal was to see how much do pupils know about morfology of Proteus at the end of their primary school education. Within the survey we tried to find out whether there are any typical misconceptions regarding to Proteus. 57 % of pupils scored at least a half of all points, which means that their knowledge is on a satisfactory level. Nevertheless the drawings show, that their knowledge is still inadequate, because they lack overall perception of Proteus's body structure. There were no important differences between 8th and 9th grade pupils' drawings and there was only one difference between boys and girls. We spotted some misconceptions about characteristics of Proteus.
