Finding the issue of disarmament (as well as arms control) in Slovenian scientific research interest almost totally absent this paper deals with disarmament mostly from the theoretical approach. The main purpose is to clarify some of the basic conceptual dilemmas regarding disarmament and offer a preliminary definition of the notion. According to the author, it is a rather clear distinction between the understanding of disarmament in its broadand narrow (literal) sense that could be found in contemporary foreign scientific literature. Disarmament in the narrower sense prevails in the present use of this term, while its broader meaning has been replaced by the term arms control. The article is also involved in exploring one of the possible typologies of disarmament according to four criteria: a) extent of the arms reduction, b) the number of states implementing disarmament, c) the reciprocity vs. non-reciprocity in implementing disarmament and d) the level of constrainment in decision making for disarmament. Finally, the author's intention is to pay attention to the distinction between the disarmament as a state of affairs on the one hand and disarmament as a process leading to such a condition on the other. Un1ike e.g. in Eng1ish, this distinction in Slovene can be expressed in two different terms - "razorožitev" and "razoroževanje".
