A common aspect of forestry and statistics is dealing with large datasets. At a very early stage, forestry intuitively used evaluation methods which can nowadays be treated as rudiments of statistics. At present the usage of statistics is increasing in society and in forestry as well. Foresters are a few steps behind, though. If our profession is to progress, permanent improvement of our methodological knowledge is required, among other topics.
