The question of national interest(s) is one of the most beloved themes in the discussion of the Czech political parties. We could observe this matter of fact since the establishing of the independent Czech Republic. The most intensive use of the national interest theme was connected with the last parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic in June 2002. There are permanently four political parties in the parliament that present different definitions of national interests or connect the Czech national interests withother methods of its realisation. All parties have one common basis, whichwas created 200 years ago by the Czech political thinkers - the Czech national interest is primarily and inescapable connected with the foreign policy, relations with neighbours and wider co-operative collaboration - security, economical, political or cultural. In this sense, the contemporary discussion on the Czech national interests is connected with the discussion onmembership in NATO and above all in the European Union. Each of the four parliamentary political parties analyses the processes of connecting Europe inits own specific way. This is clearly seen in the very definition of national interests.
