We investigated those selected properties of plain wood ivy (Hedera helix L.),which could anticipate for its use. We studied the anatomical structure and macroscopic specialities, humidity in fresh state, density, shrinkage and swelling anisotropy, indicators of dimensional stability and compressive and flexural strength of ivy wood. The research showed that ivy wood is semi-ring-porous tree species. Absolutely dry wood density is 522 kg/m3. Average humidity of fresh wood is 92 %. Anisotropy of shrinkage and swelling is very varied, but the constrictions and swelling can be compared to woods with lower density. Dimensional stability indicators are favourable or normal, with the exception of sorption quotient and anisotropy, which are unfavourable. Mechanical properties can be compared with linden, poplar and spruce woods. Ivy wood is suitable for haberdashery products.
