Production of decimated beech elements depends on quality of raw material - sawn beech timber. In Novoles d.d. company logs are graded to classes L, I, II, III and IV, and cut into planks of 2 quality groups I-II and I-IV. The timber graded into the group I-II is used for high quality products, and that of the group I-IV for less demanding decimated elements. In doing so, the question arises whether it is more economical to use the cheaper I-IV or the more expensive I-II material. To this end, we separately evaluated the quantitative yield of the raw material of the quality groups I-II and I-IV, and compared the observed results. We analyzed the daily data of the company on the received beech sawn timber in the "decimirnica" department, where the timber is cut into elements of certain dimensions. The results show that the quantitative yield of the quality group I-II is by 16 % higher than those of the group I-IV. When using the timber of I-IV quality more time is spent for processing, therefore, the final products are more expensive.
