To prolong service life of wood its protection is applied. Importance of non-biocidal solutions used to protect wood is increasing nowadays. One of the options for such protection is utilization of wax emulsions. Among various factors influencing service life and aesthetic aspects of wood are blue stain fungi and moulds. To elucidate influence of various wax emulsions on blue stains and moulds, pine sapwood specimens were brushed with various emulsions of montan, polyethylene and oxidized polyethylene waxes. Experiment was performed according to EN 152-1 procedure. To achieve a better effect, aqueous emulsions of waxes were supplemented with boric acid. The results showed that wax treatment did not improve resistance of pine wood against staining fungi. However, addition of boron to wax emulsions significantly decreases staining.
