Procedure for the selection of terrain for the use of mechanised cutting in combination with cable yarding is presented. Slovene sources of silvicultural and other spatial data as well as computer programme tools for geographical information systems were utilised. With the multi-criteria evaluation method, the terrains suitable for cable yarding were classified in view of their adequacy for mechanised cutting. The contribution further deals with some influential factors that stipulate suitability of various combinations for mechanised cutting technologies and terrains suitable for cable yarding.
