A review of the book "Living Environment in the Global Information Age, Volume 1, Spatio-Temporal Organization of Living" by Prof Dr. Zdravko Mlinar is an opportunity, with the book itself also being a related source, to assess what is going on in the sphere of spatial planning in Slovenia. A pioneer in the field of spatial and urban sociology, the author notes that people feel marginalised from decision-making on planning matters and that people should be given the chance to co-decide on common issues. With these findings in mind, Professor Mlinar sheds light on the development of spatial planning in Slovenia, which has made its way from more or less interdisciplinary discursive forms, through interactive and participatory experiments, to institutional forms of planning. Unfortunately, this involves a path of regression in the context of the democratisation of decision-making on spatial development. It also represents a step backwards from the point of view of citizens' participation.
