Systematic research of a direct and a indirect influences of human being on the environment has started with the ecology. Accordingly, with the human's negative influence on the environment, the modern concepts of national security had broadened its approach and include also environmental threats. Under this scrutiny was taken also the military system, because of its negative impacts on the environment. The result is seen in the regulation of its activities and influences on the environment by international conventions and international agreements. However, impact of defence system on the environment, as a laboratory for training the armed forces and as the ultimategoal of the armed forces' activities, has not been studied sufficiently. The initial studies and researches have been conducted by military experts only, nowadays are in the studies of defence system's activities consequences on the environment, besides military experts also involved international organizations, non-governmental organizations and academics. The leading role in this area of research has NATO's Committee on the Challenges of Modern Society with its pilot studies on reducing aircraft noise, environmental restoration and clean-up of military bases etc. Development in this field indicates the establishment of a new discipline of ecology e.g. the military ecology.
