Digital tools for recreational divers are currently fragmented: dive logging,
dive planning, and overviews of dive sites and weather conditions are offered
by separate applications, none of which combines these functionalities into a
single, installation-free system. In this thesis, we reviewed the field of recreational diving, analysed existing solutions, and confirmed this gap. Based
on these findings, we designed and developed the Potapp web application on
the Ruby on Rails framework with a PostgreSQL database. The application
combines, in a single system, dive logging and editing, dive planning with
calculation of the no-decompression limit and air consumption, exploration
of dive sites on a map with ratings, an overview of weather and sea conditions, logging of marine life sightings, an overview of diving statistics, and
profile management. The thesis demonstrates that these functionalities can
be combined into a single web application.
