As member states of the European Union are increasingly focusing on their economic development, there is also a growing demand for this development to be as sustainable as possible and, more generally, to reduce and eliminate the impact that humans have on nature. With the adoption of the European Green Deal (EGD), the European Union made an important step towards sustainable development, particularly in terms of climate neutrality. The thesis examines the effects of the EGD and sustainable development policies on the Municipality of Šentjernej. It analyses the municipality’s development projects implemented between 2016 and 2025. They are evaluated based on their contribution to specific areas of the EGD and classified accordingly. Additionally, they are assessed using three criteria to determine the overall significance of each developmental project. The analysis revealed that the municipality’s funding was unevenly distributed across the areas. The number of implemented projects remained relatively stable over the years, but a moderate increase in the amount of funds invested was observed over the analyzed period. The highest number of investments was focused on sustainable mobility and pollution reduction, whereas the construction and renovation sector received the largest amount of funds. No funds were allocated to the clean industry sector, and only one project in the area of biodiversity conservation was carried out. Even though the municipality had already been investing in key development areas prior to the adoption of the EGD, there was a noticeable increase in funding after 2020.
