This thesis examines the role of Slovenian actors in Yugoslav-Chinese relations and the
continuity of their activities following the independence of the Republic of Slovenia. Particular attention is paid to the development of Slovenian paradiplomacy, economic and technological cooperation, and the transfer of knowledge, institutional experience, and business networks from the era of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) to independent Slovenia. The research is situated within the broader geopolitical context of the Cold War, which, from the 1970s onwards, laid the groundwork for pragmatic Yugoslav-Chinese cooperation. The author posits that Slovenian actors were not merely implementers of federal policy but actively developed their own economic, cultural, and diplomatic initiatives within the SFRY. The connections established during the 1970s and 1980s served as a foundation for the development of bilateral relations after independence; consequently, contemporary Slovenian-Chinese relations cannot be understood solely as the product of post-1991 diplomacy, but rather as a continuation of processes with deep institutional and economic roots.
