Themed trails in Šmarje pri Jelšah are a key element of green infrastructure, contributing to recreation, tourism, nature conservation, cultural heritage, education and sustainable development. Despite the existing network of trails, the question of their maintenance, visibility and user experience remains open. The aim of the research is to analyse the current state of these trails, the satisfaction of the inhabitants and the possibilities for improvement. The methods used include a literature review, a field inventory, an interview with a tourism worker and a survey of the inhabitants. The results show that the trails are mostly well maintained, but poorly signposted, especially in terms of information boards and rest stops. Respondents express interest in improvements such as better signposting, accessibility and enriched interpretation of the trails. The findings suggest the need for an integrated approach to the management of thematic routes, including better promotion, upgrading of infrastructure and active involvement of the
local community. The study offers concrete suggestions for improvements that can contribute to increasing the attractiveness and functionality of thematic trails in Šmarje pri Jelšah.
