The aim of the master's thesis was to create a 3D model of a car for promotional purposes, which was further enhanced with a 3D animation. Special emphasis was placed on achieving a high level of realism and on the use of modern modeling techniques.
The thesis consists of a theoretical and an experimental part. The theoretical part provides a brief overview of automotive design throughout history and in today’s automotive industry. It also presents the fundamental principles of design, including interior design, aerodynamics, brand identity, and the selection of materials and textures. Furthermore, it describes the most used software and advanced 3D modeling techniques in the automotive industry, including levels of detail and physically based rendering. This is followed by a description of lighting, animation, and the role of post-production in the final visualization. The experimental part first describes the materials and hardware used. It then presents the complete process of creating the 3D car model, including the use of technical drawings, modeling, and the application of materials and textures. This is followed by a description of scene creation, the setup of studio and additional lighting, and the 3D animation process. Finally, the process of post-production, color correction, and exporting the animation in an appropriate format for presentation is described.
The result of the master's thesis is a successfully designed 3D model of an Audi car, placed in a studio environment. It is presented in the form of a 3D animation, enabling a realistic visual representation of the car and its distinctive design features.
