Analiza umetno tvorjenih rjavih patin na bronu

V diplomskem delu je bilo obravnavano obnašanje umetno tvorjenih rjavih patin v simuliranih atmosferskih pogojih. Pripravljene in analizirane so bile štiri različne vrste patin: oksidna, elektrokemijska, sulfidna rjava patina v dveh debelinah in t.i. »French brown« patina. Namen dela je bil pojasniti, kaj vpliva na odzivnost umetnih patin na okoljske vplive. Patine so bile pripravljene s segrevanjem, elektrokemijsko oziroma z nanosom raztopin kalijevega sulfida in železovega nitrata na vzorce brona Cu10Sn. Primerjane so bile njihove lastnosti: barva vizualno ter debelina in kompaktnost plasti določene z metalografsko analizo. Njihova odpornost na nadaljnjo korozijo je bila raziskana z elektrokemijskimi meritvami potenciala odprtega kroga, linearne polarizacije in potenciodinamskimi meritvami. Izvedene so bile v simulirani raztopini urbanega dežja. Rezultati so bili primerjani z odzivi nepatiniranega brona. Vzorci s tanjšo in debelejšo sulfidno, »French brown« in elektrokemijsko patino so bili izpostavljeni simulirani raztopini urbanega dežja, kakršna je bila uporabljena pri elektrokemijskih meritvah, za obdobje 44-ih dni. Pred izpostavitvijo, po 14-ih, 30-ih in po 44-ih dneh je bila vizualno določena barva patin, s SEM analizirana morfologija in določena kemijska sestava korozijskih produktov. Vse patine so bile rjave do sive barve. Med njimi so bile razlike v debelini in v morfologiji ter kemijski sestavi. Opažene so bile tri značilne morfologije: razpoke, drobni korozijski produkti in luske. V izbranem korozijskem mediju se je kot najbolj stabilna izkazala elektrokemijsko pripravljena patina kot najbolj dovzetna za nadaljnjo korozijo pa »French brown« patina. Le-ta je bila edina, na katere površini se je v 44-ih dneh v raztopini umetnega dežja tvorila zelena patina v obliki kristalov brohantita. Po koncu izpostavitve je bila z njimi prekrita večina prvotne rjave patine, medtem ko sta sulfidni in elektrokemijska patina ostale nespremenjene.

Naslov:Analysis of artificially created brown patinas on bronze

In this thesis, the behaviour of artificially produced brown patinas in simulated atmospheric conditions was investigated. Four different kinds of patinas were prepared and analysed: oxide patina, electrochemical patina, sulphide brown patina in two layer thicknesses and the so-called “French brown” patina. The purpose of this work was to explain which factors affect the sensitivity of such patinas to environmental influences. The patinas were prepared by heating, electrochemically or by applying potassium sulphide and ferric nitrate solutions to Cu10Sn bronze samples. Their colour, as well as their thickness and compactness, determined by metallographic analysis, were compared. Electrochemical measurements of open circuit potential, linear polarisation and potentiodynamic measurements were carried out in a simulated solution of urban rain, in order to determine their resistance to advancing corrosion. The results were compared with unpatinated bronze sample. Samples with thinner and thicker layers of sulphide, “French brown” and electrochemical patina were exposed to the solution of artificial rain for a period of 44 days. Before exposure, after 14, 30, and 44 days the patinas’ colour was checked visually, and the morphology and chemical composition of corrosion products were analysed. All prepared patinas were brown to grey in colour. They differed in thickness, morphology and chemical composition. Three characteristic morphologies were observed: cracks, fine corrosion products, and flakes. The electrochemically prepared patina proved to be the most stable, while the “French brown” patina was the most susceptible for further corrosion. The “French brown” patina was the only one on which green patina had formed in the shape of well defined brochantite crystals within 44 days in the simulated urban rain solution. After this period, most of the original brown patina was covered by brochantite while both sulphide patinas and the electrochemical patina remained unchanged.
