Preverila sem tudi povezanost zadovoljenosti relacijskih potreb klientov s tremi konstrukti, prisotnimi v psihoterapevtskem kontekstu – terapevtsko delovno alianso, relacijsko globino in psihološkim distresom.

Naslov:Psychometric properties of the Relational needs satisfaction scale in psychotherapy
Izvleček:
Relational needs are present in every relationship, and responsiveness to these needs is important across all stages of life. Their satisfaction is associated with various positive psychological constructs and indicators of psychological well-being. Although the concept of relational needs was developed within the field of psychotherapy, no research has so far examined relational needs satisfaction in a psychotherapeutic context. The aim of this master’s thesis was to examine the psychometric properties of a new measurement instrument – the Relational Needs Satisfaction Scale in Psychotherapy (RNSS-P). The association between clients’ relational needs satisfaction and three constructs relevant in the psychotherapeutic context was also examined: therapeutic working alliance, relational depth, and psychological distress. An online questionnaire was completed by 333 clients (86.79% women), aged between 18 and 63 years, who were receiving psychotherapy at the time of the study. In addition to the RNSS-P, the questionnaire included the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation – Outcome Measure (CORE-OM), the Working Alliance Inventory – Short Revised (WAI-SR), and the Relational Depth Frequency Scale – Client (RDFS-C). The WAI-SR and RDFS-C were translated, and their psychometric properties were also examined in the sample. Confirmatory factor analysis of the RNSS-P was conducted for four models: a one-factor model, a five-factor model, a hierarchical model, and a bifactor model. The results showed that the bifactor model provided the best fit to the data according to the fit indices. The reliability of the total score was excellent, while the reliability of the subscales was good. Furthermore, relational needs satisfaction was found to be associated with higher ratings of the therapeutic working alliance, more frequent experiences of relational depth, and lower psychological distress, reflected in fewer symptoms and less risky behaviour, as well as better everyday functioning and subjective well-being among clients. This study represents the first application of the scale in a psychotherapeutic context, with the results demonstrating adequate psychometric properties of the RNSS-P for assessing clients’ relational needs satisfaction in psychotherapy. The scale may have important practical value in psychotherapeutic practice. It may serve as a tool for monitoring the psychotherapeutic process, identifying satisfied and unmet relational needs, and adapting interventions to clients’ needs.
