V magistrski nalogi sem se ukvarjal s ponovnim odkritjem Platona in njegove filozofije v poznem srednjem veku in renesansi. Poznavanje Platonove filozofije je bilo v srednjem veku v Zahodni Evropi zelo omejeno in so jo začeli ponovno odkrivati šele ob koncu 14. stoletja, ko je v Italijo prišel bizantinski diplomat Hrisoloras. Pod njegovim vodstvom so v prvih desetletjih 15. stoletja njegovi učenci Leonardo Bruni, Uberto Decembrio in drugi prevedli pomembne Platonove dialoge.

Naslov:The arrival of Platonism in Italy in the late Middle Ages
Izvleček:
In my thesis, I dealt with the rediscovery of Plato and his philosophy in the late Middle Ages and in the Renaissance. Knowledge of Plato and his philosophy was very limited in Western Europe during the Middle Ages and began to be rediscovered only at the end of 14th century, when Byzantine diplomat Chrysoloras arrived in Italy. Under his leadership his students Leonardo Bruni, Uberto Decembrio and others translated important Plato's dialogues. Western Europe's second contact with Plato occurred at the Council of Florence, when Greek philosophers came to Italy with the aim of uniting Christianity in the fight against the Ottoman Empire. In the debates, they brought a sophisticated view of Plato's philosophy, which managed to remain preserved in the Byzantine Empire. Different views were presented by the Greek scholars Georgios Gemistos Plethon, Basileios Bessarion and Georgios Trebizond. Nicholas of Cusa also had his own view about ideological conflict between Plato and Aristotle. After the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople the period with the most translations followed. Ancient texts came to Italy with refugees, which led to syncretism of Plato, neoplatonist hierarchies, magic, Chaldean oracles, Hermeticism etc. The financing of the translation was taken over by the Medici. The greatest translator was Marsilio Ficino, who translated Plato's dialogues, Plotinus, Corpus Hermeticum and at the same time created his own philosophical speculation, which was based on Neoplatonist hypostasies of the One, Mind and Soul. His theory was upgraded by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola at the end of the century. In the 15th century, the translation of Plato's dialogues and the emergence of new Platonic speculations took place. However, interest in Platonism died down in the following centuries.
