The thesis examines the spatial and social impacts of cruise tourism in Koper and the perceptions of residents of the Municipality of Koper. Koper is the only Slovenian port for passenger ships, and the close proximity of the passenger terminal to the old town centre means that the effects of cruise ship arrivals are quickly reflected in the urban space. The theoretical part presents the main characteristics of cruise tourism, its impacts and the importance of local residents’ attitudes towards tourism development. The empirical part is based on an online survey conducted among 105 residents of the Municipality of Koper. The results show that respondents generally evaluate cruise tourism positively, mainly because of its contribution to the visibility of Koper, local economic benefits and a livelier urban atmosphere. At the same time, some respondents also perceive certain pressures, especially crowding in the town centre, the presence of tourist groups and increased traffic. Residents of the old town centre perceive these impacts more strongly than residents of other parts of the municipality, but this does not necessarily lead to opposition to further development. The findings indicate that the future development of cruise tourism in Koper should be based on balanced spatial management, the regulation of tourist flows and consideration of the quality of life of local residents.
