The aim of the diploma thesis is to design a women’s and men’s ready-to-wear collection inspired by my mother’s student years.
The diploma thesis, a clothing collection entitled *Designing a Contemporary Collection: My Mother’s Student Years*, presents the process of developing, conceptualising, and designing a clothing collection. The work explores my mother’s student years and the influence of luxury and sports fashion in the 1990s.
The theoretical part examines fashion during the period when my mother was a student. It presents the brands and designers who were leading figures in luxury fashion in the 1990s. It also describes sports brands that had an important influence on the development of fashion. The thesis explores luxury and sports fashion in depth, focusing on how they influenced young people’s everyday clothing and how these influences are reflected in contemporary fashion.
The experimental part presents the development of the clothing collection, from the initial idea, photographs of my mother, collages, and fashion sketches to prototypes and the final product. Textile samples are also presented in the thesis. Throughout the entire process, the main figures of 1990s fashion are researched and translated into contemporary silhouettes. The purpose of the collection is to create garments with a touch of elegance and sophistication that are suitable for everyday wear and sports activities.
The result of the work is a contemporary collection consisting of seven silhouettes.
