In the diploma thesis, reactions of three different zinc(II) compounds with 3-cyanopyridine are described. 3-cyanopyridine has two sites through which coordination can occur, namely through the cyano group or through the ring nitrogen. The selected starting compounds were: zinc(II) chloride (ZnCl₂), zinc(II) acetate dihydrate (Zn(CH₃COO)₂·2H₂O), and [Zn(quin)₂(H₂O)]. The reactions were carried out in different solvents and under various conditions (at room temperature, heating under reflux or heating in autoclaves at 105 °C). The following compounds were prepared: [ZnCl₂(3-CNpy)₂], [Zn₇O₂(CH₃COO)₁₀(3-CNpy)₂], [Zn(CH₃COO)₂]ₙ, [Zn₇O₂(CH₃COO)₁₀(3-CNpy)₂]·4CH₃CN, and [Zn(kinal)₂(acetamidine)]. We also prepared compound X whose composition is yet unknown. The solid products were characterized using IR spectroscopy, ¹H NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and some also with X-ray diffraction analysis.
