Introduction: Vasculitis is a rare chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of blood vessels and may affect various organ systems. Due to its complexity, unpredictable course, and long-term treatment, it significantly impacts patients’ quality of life in physical, psychological, social, and financial aspects. Purpose: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to present the impact of vasculitis on the quality of life of patients, their family members, and significant others, with an emphasis on understanding the physical, psychological, social, and financial consequences, as well as the challenges patients face in everyday life. Methods: A descriptive research method based on a review of Slovenian and international scientific and professional literature was used. Literature was searched through the Digital Library of the University of Ljubljana using the databases PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, COBISS, and Google Scholar. Articles published between 2016 and 2026 were included. Results: The findings indicate that vasculitis has a significant impact on patients’ quality of life. The most common effects include physical symptoms such as pain and fatigue, psychological difficulties such as anxiety and depression, and social and economic consequences such as social isolation and reduced work ability. An additional burden for patients is represented by numerous adverse effects of treatment, which may be psychological (in addition to anxiety and depression, also irritability, insomnia, euphoria, manic mood, and mood swings), physical (e.g., facial swelling, weight gain, muscle weakness, increased appetite, skin fragility, and increased susceptibility to bruising), as well as long-term complications such as diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, glaucoma, and infertility. Discussion and Conclusion: The quality of life of patients with vasculitis requires a holistic approach that goes beyond pharmacological treatment alone. The inclusion of psychological support, social assistance, and patient health education is essential. A multidisciplinary approach and individualized care that consider the needs of each individual are of key importance.
