Six coordination compounds with 3d metal centers and the 2-aminobenzoic acid (HL) anion were synthesized from an aqueous solution. These are [MnL2]n 1, FeCl2(HL)2 2, CoL2 3, NiL2 4, [CuL2]n 5 and [ZnL2]n 6. Three of these compounds (1, 5, and 6) were found in the database of the determined structures (CSD). Experimental powder XRD confirms the identity of these compounds. The similarity of the powder XRD for all compounds except 2 suggests their isostructural nature. The measured mass fractions match the corresponding ML2 compounds theoretical fractions. XRD and CHN data show a difference only for the iron compound FeCl2(HL)2 2, to which a different formula was assigned. The IR spectra of Mn 1, Co 3, Ni 4, and Zn 6 compounds are almost identical. Only for the compounds Fe 2, Cu 5 and the sodium salt of this acid NaL the differences are seen in their IR spectra. Nevertheless, they all corroborate with the presence of the L- anion. The electronic spectra of compounds 1-6 differ being in accordance to different metal ion present.
