This bachelor's thesis focuses on the development of adapted cutlery for children with cerebral
palsy who experience significant difficulties with independent feeding due to impairments in
hand motor function, movement coordination, and muscle tone. The theoretical part is based on a
review of professional literature and interviews with two occupational therapists. The research
identified several key shortcomings of existing solutions, including limited adaptability,
inadequate ergonomics, and the 'clinical' appearance of products, which may contribute to the
stigmatization of users.
The practical part presents the development process of a new adaptive eating utensil designed
according to ergonomic principles and the needs of children with different forms of cerebral
palsy. Three handle concepts were developed to provide a better grip, reduce muscular effort, and
accommodate specific motor impairments of users. Particular attention was also given to the
design of the spoon bowl, the selection of materials, and the aesthetic appearance of the product.
The aim of the proposed solution is to increase children's independence during meals, improve
the user experience, and contribute to greater social inclusion and a higher quality of life for
children with physical disabilities.
