Young people today are increasingly confronted with digital overload. A substantial portion of both school-related and leisure time is spent in front of screens—such as smartphones, tablets, and computers—which reduces the need for handwriting. However, handwriting has numerous scientifically proven positive effects on memory, concentration, creativity, and focus, as it significantly contributes to the stimulation of brain activity.
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to design and produce a physical, functional, and aesthetically appropriate planner for the academic year 2026/27. The purpose of the research was also to evaluate selected types of paper (Motif Multifunctional paper (V1), Color Copy Coated Glossy paper (V2), and uncoated paperboard Acacia (V3)) in terms of their basic, structural, surface, optical, printing, and mechanical properties, and, based on the results, to determine the most suitable material for planner production.
The theoretical part presents the concept of digital overload and its impact on young people. Furthermore, graphic materials, the selected printing technique, and the finishing processes used in planner production are described. The experimental part was based on the testing and comparison of selected paper samples using appropriate analytical methods. The analysis showed that V1 is the most suitable for the inner pages of the planner, while V3 with higher grammage is the most appropriate for the covers.
The final product is a planner for the academic year 2026/27, intended for primary school pupils, secondary school students, and university students. It enables clearer organization of time (both formal and informal) and efficient recording of goals, obligations, and tasks.
