In this thesis, I investigated the UV/TiO2 photocatalytic degradation of selected textile dyes and pharmaceutical compounds in water. The aim of the work was to evaluate the efficiency of photocatalysis for the removal of organic pollutants and to compare the degradation of individual compounds with that of a pharmaceutical mixture. I monitored dye degradation using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, pharmaceutical degradation using HPLC, and mineralization using TOC analysis. The results showed that photocatalysis was effective mainly in terms of dye decolourisation, while significant mineralization was not confirmed. Different degradation rates were observed for the pharmaceutical compounds, and degradation in the mixture did not always correspond to degradation in individual solutions.
