Thesis addresses extreme precipitation events in Slovenia in the last 20 years. Extreme precipitation event happens, when on some location falls more precipitation than it is usual for that location. It is also important, when precipitation event happens and in which timeframe. Purpose of the thesis was to determine characteristics of extreme precipitation events, in different seasons. Data source was the archive of extreme weather events on web page of Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO). In selection of the events was taken in consideration if event caused damage and how high were return periods. Extreme precipitation events from 2006 to 2025, were different in seasons. In spring there is more snow events, with frost and heavy rainfall. At summer we have many storms because of atmospheric instability. This is also the season with most extreme precipitation events. Heavy rainfalls are frequent as a result of Mediterranean
cyclogenesis in autumn. In winter we have mostly snow events. Most events have next similar characteristics: upper-level trough, weather fronts, cyclon areas in Mediterranean and southwestern airflow. In summer we have convective precipitation. One limitation of recording and analysing extreme precipitation events is also insufficient number of meteorological stations, and we cannot record every precipitation event that has happened.
