Introduction: With advances in medical diagnostics, conventional film radiography has gradually been replaced by digital imaging methods in recent decades. In digital radiography, two main approaches are distinguished: computed radiography and digital radiography, which differ in their methods of image acquisition and conversion of X-ray exposure into a digital image. Purpose: The aim of the study was to gain insight into the use of computed and digital radiography in Slovenian healthcare institutions, to determine which system is most used, whether radiologic technologists perceive differences in image quality, and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of both systems in clinical practice. Methods: A mixed-methods approach was used, including a descriptive review of the literature and a quantitative survey using an anonymous questionnaire for radiologic technologists. Literature was sourced from databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and other professional resources. The questionnaire was prepared in Google Forms and distributed through the Association of Radiologic Technologists of Slovenia. Data collection took place from 6 February 2026 to 5 March 2026, during which 61 responses were received. Results: Most respondents (57.7%) exclusively use the digital radiography system, confirming its predominance. Approximately 65.4% rated the quality of digital radiographs as significantly better, and an additional 30.7% as somewhat better, compared to radiographs obtained using computed radiography. Digital radiography provides improved detail visibility, better contrast resolution, and less image noise. Its advantages include faster examinations, direct digital image acquisition, and post-processing capabilities; its disadvantages are higher cost and detector sensitivity. Computed radiography remains in use due to lower costs and greater flexibility but exhibits more noise and lower overall image quality. Most respondents would recommend the digital radiography system for continued use. Discussion and conclusion: The study confirms that the digital radiography system is the most widely used and is subjectively perceived as superior. Computed radiography continues to be used primarily for economic and organisational reasons. Limitations of the study include a small sample size and the subjective nature of the assessments. Future research should involve a larger sample and objective measurements of image quality.
