This master's thesis is grounded in the concepts of critical geopolitics, which approaches geopolitics as a social, cultural, and political practice, revealing how discourses and representations of the world are constructed. The thesis examines how the media create sites of discourse and, through a combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, explores how selected Slovenian media outlets frame the war in Ukraine. In the first chapters of the empirical section, we focus on a quantitative analysis of articles published on the websites of MMC RTVSLO, 24ur, and Dnevnik over the course of one year (Feb. 2022 – Feb. 2023). The review and analysis of a large body of articles revealed dominant themes and provided insights into hidden textual patterns that could not be identified by examining a smaller sample of texts. In the second part of the empirical section, we turn to a more detailed content analysis of articles reporting on anti-war protests, as published on the websites of 24ur and MMC RTVSLO. This research contributes to a better understanding of the role of the media in shaping discourses on ongoing conflicts and geopolitical issues, while also fostering the development of critical media literacy.
