Due to the need for more efficient wastewater treatment, the MBBR system (moving bed biofilm reactor) has been increasingly used in recent decades. In this process, mic-roorganisms attach to small, freely moving carriers on which biofilm grows. The car-riers provide a large specific surface area for biomass growth and contribute to more stable process operation, even under changes in loading and environmental conditions. They are usually made of non-biodegradable polymeric materials. For such materials, it is important to evaluate whether leaching occurs during contact with water and whether the leached substances could affect water quality and aquatic organisms. In this thesis, 3D-printed carriers made of Fun To Do Nano Clear material were used. The results showed that organic substances and orthophosphate leach from the carriers and leachates have a highly toxic effect on the aquatic plant Lemna minor. The results con-tributed to the assessment of the safety of using this type of material for carriers in MBBR in wastewater treatment systems.
