In my diploma thesis, I attempted to prepare coordination compounds of zinc(II), which in addition to the pyrazinoate ion also contained piperazine, homopiperazine or N-methylpiperazine. I performed several reactions under different reaction conditions (at room temperature, heating under reflux or in an autoclave at 105 °C). It was shown that piperazine and homopiperazine formed coordination compounds with zinc(II) ion, while reactions with N-methylpiperazine were not successful. The reaction products, [Zn(pyraz)2(pz)]n, [Zn(pyraz)2(hpz)], pzH2[Zn(pyraz)3]2∙2CH3OH and hpzH2[Zn(pyraz)3]2∙4CH3OH, were analyzed using infrared vibrational and 1H NMR spectroscopy, while thermal and elemental CHN analyses were also performed on the stable solid products.
