European funds are an important tool with which member states finance projects that promote their development. The diploma thesis analyses the effectiveness and efficiency of the use of European cohesion funds by the Municipality of Brezovica in the programming period 2014 – 2020. The purpose of the thesis is to determine how successful the Municipality was in the implementation of projects, the use of funds and how the implemented projects pursued regional and municipal development needs. The analysis is based on a descriptive method, with the help of which foreign and domestic literature on cohesion funds, final project reports, project documentation, municipal documents and program documents were analysed. The analysis was additionally supplemented by an interview with Mayor Metod Ropret, which enabled a deeper understanding of the operation of the Municipality within the program period. Limitations appeared mainly in obtaining relevant resources and financial data. As part of the thesis, it was estimated that in the program period 2014 – 2020 the Municipality was relatively efficient due to the achievement of most of the set indicators in four of the six implemented projects. They also successfully completed all six projects. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of the successful absorption of European funds and the identification of problems that arise in projects. The findings are useful for the Municipality itself, as well as for other small and medium-sized municipalities facing similar problems.
