As part of this thesis, we experimentally investigated the influence of wire material, diameter, and surface treatment on the performance of a water harp, which represents one of the alternative sources of potable water. An experimental facility was designed to create fog conditions, in which the mass of water collected by each sample was measured. The results showed an 84.6% higher corrected average mass of collected water for copper wires compared to stainless steel wires, and a 39.6% higher value for wires with a diameter of 0.4 mm compared to wires with a diameter of 0.2 mm. We discovered that both hydrophobic and hydrophilic coatings noticeably affect water collection performance; however, their results were rather unstable. We recommend that future research focus on the development of environmentally friendly and health-safe hydrophobic and hydrophilic coatings.
