This master's thesis analyzes low-carbon development in aviation and the impact of airlines' and airports' sustainable practices on passenger decisions. The theoretical part discusses the importance of air transport for the global economy and tourism, along with development guidelines for passenger transport. The environmental issues faced by the aviation sector are analyzed. The thesis also includes an analysis of technologies that can reduce the negative environmental impact of air transport. Such technologies most commonly include the use of sustainable aviation fuel, alternative propulsion systems, and digitalization, as well as various other low-carbon measures implemented by airlines and airports. The role of passengers in the process of sustainable aviation development is also examined.
In the empirical part, a survey was conducted among participants who are users of air transport. The results show that the most important factors influencing the choice of a specific flight are its price, the availability of direct connections, and travel time. Environmental factors play a less important role among the respondents. At the same time, the respondents believe they are not willing to spend more money to reduce their carbon footprint, but they support the idea of sustainability as long as it does not increase costs or alter their travel experience.
